My Trip To The Netherlands
how my little dream became a reality
Before I get to the story about my trip to The Netherlands, let me tell you how I met Tymon. I'll spare you the crazy story, because that's something only the two of us will ever know, haha. But long story short: we became "friends" on facebook back in 2010. We first saw each other in person on a summer festival called Brutal Assault (yes) one year later. Here is first picture of us:
And, we're best emo buddies since then! I've been to Holland couple of times and we've become very close over the years. Sweet, isn't it? Internet (long distance) friendship can work! And I'm very grateful for that.
Tymon was listening to my crying and whining for over 10 years now and his help with my process of songwriting was incredibly significant. Everytime I asked questions about lyrics, he was there. Everytime I needed to go through my thoughts, he was there. And everytime I wanted an honest opinion, he gave me one, even though it wasn't always nice one to hear.
With that being said, after 3 years of working (or not) on my songs I got to the point where it was all done. Tymon offered me his mixing and production services and I accepted (of course).
I went to Holland for one week in the end of may 2021, with all the covid restrictions. I was hoping that I won't end up positive before or after and I didn't, fortunately. I saw Tymon after 5 long years, so you can imagine how emo-happy I was haha. Anyway, besides trying to get my gluten-free sourdough starter active, we were working on the sound of my EP.
I never saw anyone mixing and producing on this level before. Tymon is a wizard! He made sure to meet my expectations and because I didn't know how to describe the sound I want, we went through my favorite songs and draw some facts from it. For example, I wanted my vocals honest, close, warm, light, sweet, intimate and real. For the piano, dry, gentle, intimate and present feeling. His gentle approach and him knowing me so well was what I appreciated deeply, because he tailor-made the sound for me. And not only the sound, the production itself was just perfectly splendid. Tymon has great insight in music, production and mixing and he just knew what to look for. We tried couple of things and when I wasn't sure, he found more solutions untill I loved it. Boy did he make me cry! I was sitting there, in front of the screens, listening to the magic and it was so overwhelming that it indeed made me cry. My dream started to become a reality. And hey, I don't say all this because he's my best friend. He really is a professional and I'm just lucky to know him as a friend.
So, after a week, I left Holland with (almost) final mix of my 5 songs. Listening to that on the plane was really something. Watch this lil video I made:
